As promised, this is my first j2 au rec list. It's got a few well known stories thrown in, but a lot of them are good reads that most people might not have heard of. I know that I read enough j2 au that going through the normal rec lists sounds something like this: read it, read it, read it, not going to read it and I don't care how many people rec it, read it, read it ... you get my drift.
So, hopefully even the avid reader will see something that they haven't read yet. If you've read them all ... well, I tried.
Title: So Close to My Heart
Dr. Jared and single-dad Jensen in Seattle, with love and complications. (This has been recced a lot, but it's really cute and everyone should read it. Even if you think you won't like it, read it anyway!)
Title: Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?
Wordcount/Rating: 450ish / GSummary:
(A tiny little schmoop-fest from Harley and Sadie's POV. Seriously adorable.)
Title: Fade Back to the Football'verse (4 parts complete)
Wordcount/Rating: 23,000 / NC-17Summary:
Jensen Ackles is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. Jared Padalecki is a newly drafted receiver on the team. With Welling on the injured list, Padalecki steps up to play, but there's some tension on and off the field. (I almost didn't read this, because I don't really care about football and the formatting looked a little jumbled at first glance, but boy am I glad I did. It's adorable and schmoopy and just a really decent read.)
Title: I Taught Your Boyfriend That Thing You Like
Wordcount/Rating: 22,000 words / NC-17Summary:
Jared is a big gay celebrity gossip blogger. Jensen is the biggest straightest action star in Hollywood. Boysex ensues. (This is campy and funny and cute.)
Title: You Made My House A Home
Author: sasskitten and jeyhawk
Wordcount/Rating: 15,820 / NC-17Summary:
When Jensen Ackles is hired to fix heart broken writer, Jared Padalecki’s house, the carpenter ends up fixing a lot more than that. (This has been out for a while, so if there is a single person who hasn't read it ... you should be ashamed of yourself! It's absolutely a favorite of mine, not only on this list but on any list.)
Title: Heaven's Just A Sin Away.
Wordcount: ~ 13 000 / NC-17Summary:
(Jensen is a ghost and Jared is the only one who can hear him. - And if you read that summary and immediately thought, "Hell no!" because you can foresee the deep, unending angst ... just trust me here and go with it. It's a brilliant story and the Big Bang sequel is coming out tomorrow, so you definitely want to be caught up.)
Title: Man's Best Friend
Wordcount/Rating: 18,000 / NC-17Summary:
Jensen gets turned into a dog. Things...happen. (I seriously LOVE this story. Read it. Read it. Read it. So funny and adorable and just perfect. You will not be disappointed.)
Title: Business Hours Are Over
Wordcount/Rating: 11,150 / NC-17
Summary: Jared's just started his dream job as the receptionist at Kripke & Manners, and he quickly develops a serious crush on the acountant. (The voice in this story is really playful and fun. It's a good read.)
Title: Late Night Double Feature
Wordcount/Rating: 20,037 / RSummary:
For spn_j2_bigbang. Gone are the lazy summer days of Jared’s youth; he now has his first-ever job at the Starlight Cinemas. It’s nothing like he expected – long hours, hard work, and unpredictable coworkers, including one Jensen Ackles. Only one thing is certain: Jared’s going to learn more than how to make the perfect batch of popcorn. (This is probably cheating a little, since it just came out and it's a big bang. But I really, really enjoyed this story and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't, so it's going on the list.)
Title: This Fragile Heart
Wordcount/Rating: 15,544 / NC-17Summary:
(Jared and Jensen both have pain in their pasts, but they come together and learn to live again. - Okay, so I suck at summaries. But this story is brilliant. Parts of it are incredibly painful, but it's also incredibly touching and beautiful. Happy ending, of course, and well worth a read.)
Title: In From the Cold
Wordcount/Rating: 32 Chapters / RSummary:
(Jared works at a free clinic and a slightly broken Jensen shows up. - This is a completed verse. The chapters aren't put together in a main post anywhere, which is kinda a pet peeve of mine, but the story was interesting enough that I didn't really mind. It's actually a really original and complex plot, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.)
Well, that's it for now. I hope someone finds it useful, and I'll definitely post more later. ~ Cheers.
